Wendy Morton calls on Georgian political parties to reach a compromise

Wendy Morton, British Minister for European Neighborhood and the Americas at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) said that the United Kingdom continues to support the reforms in Georgia during the difficult political period following the 2020 parliamentary elections.

Morton wrote on Twitter that she had talked to Davit Zalkaliani, Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs to emphasize the need for all parties to reach a compromise.

“The UK is a close friend of Georgia and we will support it to introduce reforms during a difficult time following the recent parliamentary elections. I spoke to Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani to emphasise the need for all parties to reach a compromise,” Wendy Morton Tweeted.

Nine opposition parties that passed a 1% threshold to enter the new Georgian parliament refused to recognize the October 31 parliamentary election results, calling them rigged. The U.S. and EU Ambassadors to Georgia are facilitating the negotiations between the ruling Georgian Dream Party and the opposition, though the first two rounds ended in no promising results.
