Varlam Liparteliani, Captain of the Georgian judo team in the 100-kg weight category, has qualified for the Final at Judo World Championship 2018 in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the 6th day of the tournament.

The Georgian judoka won three struggles before the final: Liparteliani defeated his French rival. In the next round, the Georgian judoka competed against Elmar Gasimov, an Azerbaijani judoka. (Gasimov competed at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and won a silver medal in 2016). Liparteliani defeated Ramadan Darwish, an Egyptian judoka, in the ¼ final.
