US Ambassador: Selection process of candidates for CEC Chairperson, members to be inclusive

US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan provided her viewpoint about the selection process of candidates for posts of chairperson and members of the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC).

“The most important thing that it is an inclusive process that results in the candidates that people can have confidence in. The whole purpose of the reforms was to try to increase transparency, impartiality, and produce the candidates that Georgians can have confidence in.

The process was inclusive but obviously that were some not satisfied with the results in terms of impartiality,” Kelly Degnan claimed.

On July 9, the competition commission set up by President Zourabichvili shortlisted two candidates for the vacant post of the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairperson and five applicants for two CEC member jobs.
