UNM's Minashvili opposes taking up MP mandates, though says final decision to be broadly discussed

“A broad public debate will precede any decision related to the United National Movement, its next steps, taking up parliamentary seats, or signing the EU-mediated document,” Akaki Minashvili, a member of the United National Movement, said.

According to him, UNM members have different stances regarding entering the Parliament.

“We will decide after Melia meets and holds consultations with party members, party leaders, the political council, supporters, and other parties that have or have not taken up their mandates. There are different stances within the United National Movement on this topic. I’m critical about the entry and the signing, although the final decision will depend on a broad reflection, open and democratic process. I am against entering the Parliament. I think the UNM promised its voters to fight to the end and do not legitimize rigged elections. The boycott was one of the main weapons. The issues we have been prompting are not solved. Therefore, we should not lie and lose the trust of our voters,” Akaki Minashvili said.

Chairman of the United National Movement Nika Melia was released from the pre-trial detention at the Rustavi prison on May 10 after Tbilisi City Court satisfied a motion by prosecutors to substitute the restrained with the release on bail.
