UNM to prepare for May 15 rally
UNM to prepare for May 15 rally

The opposition United National Movement (UNM) party unveiled its plans on Wednesday.

UNM member Salome Samadashvili said the party would focus on two directions, mobilizing the society and preparing for the May 15 rally.

Samadashvili pledges the party would inform the public of the negotiation details with the government to assure the citizens that the opposition was ready for an agreement.

“Only a systemic reset, such as constitutional amendment and early elections, can ease the political crisis. We must agree on the release of both political prisoners, Melia and Rurua,” she added.

The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party and the opposition failed to agree on Tuesday. EU mediator Christian Danielsson said he proposed a solution that puts the country’s interest first, but none of the political parties could agree to it.

The Georgian opposition parties that won seats in the Georgian Parliament of the 10th Convocation believe the 2020 parliamentary elections were a fraud. They have been demanding repeat parliamentary elections and the release of the United National Movement Chair, Nika Melia, and the co-founder of the TV channel Mtavari Arkhi Giorgi Rurua.
