UNM supporters encounter brooms and crutches in Kakheti and Gori

The autocade of supporters and activists of the United National Movement (UNM) party, heading for the capital from the regions to join the ex-president-supportive rally in Tbilisi, encountered brooms and crutches in the Kakheti region and Gori town.

Locals from the Kakheti region organized a Corridor of Shame theatricalized protest on the Tbilisi-Vaziani-Telavi highway. For the counter-rally participants, brooms symbolize human rights violations, prisoners’ torture practised during the UNM rule.

Similar protests were staged at the Zugdidi-Tbilisi highway and Gori town.

NM Kakheti Organization Head Giorgi Botkoveli said this rally is the ‘handwriting’ of the ‘frightened’ ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.

The opposition United National Movement (UNM) will organize a large-scale protest rally in Tbilisi on October 14 in support and solidarity with imprisoned ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, who has been on hunger strike since the very first day of his arrest.
