UNM member says Constitutional Court's decision should apply to Giorgi Rurua

“The Constitutional Court of Georgia’s decision should apply to Giorgi Rurua and all the persons charged with the same offence,” the opposition United National Movement (UNM) member, Zaal Udumashvili, said on Sunday.

“Rurua’s case was fabricated. To arrest Rurua, they put a gun in his pocket. Of course, the Constitutional Court’s decision should apply to Giorgi Rurua and all those apprehended for the same offence,” Udumashvili noted.

The Constitutional Court considered the plaintiff’s position in the case of Giorgi Keburia v Parliament of Georgia earlier this week.

According to the Court, some norms of the Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia are unconstitutional, namely, those that provide a guilty verdict following the evidence that is based on operational information, Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) reported on Saturday.

Giorgi Rurua, the founder and shareholder of Mtavari Arkhi TV, has been detained for illegal possession and carrying of a firearm earlier this year.
