UNM member: Colleagues to agree on amnesty bill to bear responsibility for June 20 case whitewash

“If my colleagues agree on the Amnesty bill, they will bear political responsibility for the whitewashing the June 20 case,” said Khatia Dekanoidze, a member of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party.

Dekanoidze believes that amnesty should not apply to law enforcers who inflicted serious injuries to peaceful protesters during the June 20 -21 events in Tbilisi, the so-called Gavrilov’s Night. “Compromise is awkward in this context,” Dekanoidze said.

The UNM member welcomed the MEPs readiness to stand surety for Nika Melia, imprisoned UNM Chair.

“Bail and amnesty are categorically unacceptable. Nika Melia’s unconditional release is what matters for the UNM,” Khatia Dekanoidze said.

Leaders of the opposition Lelo party visiting Brussels reported they offered members of the European Parliament to stand surety for UNM Chair Nika Melia for the immediate change of the restraint measure and his release. According to the party, MEPs are ready to join this initiative.
