UNM drives in convoy to Rustavi Prison to support Nika Melia

United National Movement (UNM) opposition party members are driving in convoy from Republic Square to Rustavi Prison on Wednesday.

Today’s rally aims to encourage Nika Melia and protest against his illegal detention, the rally participants said.

UNM members once again stressed that Nika Melia would not pay the bail and he must be unconditionally released from prison.

Party member Zaal Udumashvili claims UNM would not participate in the discussion of the draft law on amnesty.

“Until Nika Melia is behind bars, we will not discuss the agreement with the government,” Udumashvili said.

Tbilisi City Court ruled imprisonment for Nika Melia, United National Movement (UNM) party Chairman this February.

Melia has been accused of organizing mass violence during anti-government protests in 2019. UNM leader denies the charges. Melia was arrested on February 23.
