UNM Chair vows to protect every vote at October 2 elections

Nika Melia, Chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, said he would never put up with injustice. At a special briefing following squabble at the EU Delegation in Georgia office on September 23, Melia vowed to protect every vote secured by his party at the upcoming local elections. “Georgia’s history will be written on October 2,” UNM Chair claimed.

Nika Melia said the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party’s regime is already defeatist, no matter how much blackmail or violence it uses against the Georgian people. He elaborated further, saying thieves-in-law, obedient judges and police officers, those ‘puppets’ who swerved the country off from the western orbit, should not rule Georgia.

The UNM Chair called on everybody to be active at the October 2 elections. “Nobody should have an illusion that we will cede the victory to Bidzina Ivanishvili (former GD Chair). We will protect every polling station and summarizing protocols. Georgia, Georgian nation, proud and honest will celebrate the victory,” Melia claimed.

Nika Melia, Chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, and Irakli Kobakhidze, the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party Chair, traded insulting remarks for several minutes in front of the EU Delegation Office in Tbilisi on September 23. Melia called Kobakhidze ‘slave’ and got ‘scoundrel’ in return.
