The President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan has signed a decree converting Hagia Sophia founded as a cathedral into a mosque, Reuters reported.
Earlier, the Turkish court annulled the museum status of Hagia Sophia, founded 1,500 years ago as a cathedral. In 1934 it became a museum.
According to the decree, Hagia Sophia that reopens for worship, will be administered by Turkey’s religious directorate.
Erdogan twittered a copy of the signed decree.
