Turkey preparing to trade through national currencies with China, Russia, Erdogan says
Turkey was preparing to conduct trade through national currencies with China, Russia and Ukraine, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on August 11, a day after the ailing Turkish lira crashed further to a fresh record low, at one point losing 18 per cent, its biggest fall since 2001.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan first floated the idea of trading in national currencies in 2016 after the lira has been battered by both the resurgent dollar following Donald Trump’s election victory in the United States and domestic security worries in Turkey after the failed coup.
