A Senate began the impeachment trial of President Trump on Tuesday. Republicans blocked Democrats’ efforts to subpoena witnesses and documents related to Ukraine, the US media reports.

Republicans turned back Democrats’ attempts to subpoena documents from the White House, State Department and other agencies.

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer proposed an amendment to the rules for President Trump’s impeachment trial in order to subpoena witnesses and documents from the White House.

Since the impeachment trial’s proceedings started on Tuesday, Trump has tweeted from Davos saying “Cryin’ Chuck Schumer is now asking for fairness”.

Cryin’ Chuck Schumer is now asking for “fairness”, when he and the Democrat House members worked together to make sure I got ZERO fairness in the House. So, what else is new?
