Tbilisi Mayor – Naming Tbilisi as World Book Capital is an important event

Naming Tbilisi as World Book Capital for 2021 is an important event for our nation having a rich history and an ancient script – Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said.

According to Kaladze, the decision serves as yet another recognition and appreciation of Tbilisi as being the city of unique history, education, literature and art.

“The status will become active starting April 23 of 2021 and will be in force for one year. This will mean many literature activities giving the city a new cultural life and thousands of tourists,” Kaladze said.

Tbilisi Mayor underlined that the decision gives the opportunity to popularize Tbilisi in different countries of the world. “Tbilisi will be well-prepared for the activities,” Kaladze pledged.

Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay named Tbilisi as World Book Capital for the year 2021, based on the recommendation of the World Book Capital Advisory Committee, which met in Switzerland in June 2019.

Around the slogan — “Ok, So your Next Book Is…?,” the program focuses on the use of modern technologies as powerful tools for promoting reading among youth.
