Tbilisi City Hall released statement on developments at Rustaveli Avenue

We urge politicians and media representatives not to use the administrative process for political purposes and do not mislead the public, ” – reads the statement released by Tbilisi City Hall in respond to the current developments at Rustaveli Avenue.

As stated in the statement, the New Year events planned in December do not have any connection with the developments which occurred yesterday at Rustaveli Avenue.

“We want to respond to the current developments at Rustaveli Avenue, which was evaluated by politicians and media in a variety of ways. Unfortunately, the letter of Tbilisi City Hall has been misinterpreted and followed by political speculation.

We should note that New Year events planned in December has nothing to do with the developments at Rustaveli Avenue yesterday…

As you know, New Year events are held traditionally in front of the parliament in Tbilisi. Tbilisi City Hall does not have any authority to prohibit or allow participants of the rally to set up tents. Consequently, the considering the  request of the City Hall is the prerogative of the organizers of the rally.

We urge politicians and media representatives not to use administrative process for political purposes and do not mislead the public. The events planned by Tbilisi City Hall are directed to benefit the city and not to divide the public and confront”- the statement reads.

Tbilisi City Hall has also publicized the letter sent to the organizers of the protest rally on November 5.
