Russian Foreign Ministry – Georgia's North Atlantic alliance partners openly state that they are arming Georgia

Russian Foreign Ministry released a statement regarding the meeting held between Zurab Abashidze, Special Representative of Georgian Prime Minister for Russian Relations and Gregoriy Karasin, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister on May 24 in Prague.

“Mr Karasin expressed serious concern about Georgia’s deepening cooperation with NATO. The “military development” of Transcaucasia by extra-regional forces poses a direct threat to Russia. Georgia’s North Atlantic alliance partners openly state that they are arming Georgia precisely to “contain Russia.” In this situation, Russia is entitled to take appropriate measures to strengthen its security and the security of its allies.

Having confirmed mutual interest in maintaining contacts, the parties agreed to hold the next meeting in the autumn of 2018,” reads the statement released by Russian Foreign Ministry.
