Russia accuses Georgia of politicizing Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings

Russia is concerned about the disruption of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meeting in Ergneti, which was caused by Tbilisi’s attempts to politicize the mechanism, – Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova said.

“We express serious concern over the disruption of the 89th meeting within the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, which was to be held on September 14,” Zakharova said.

According to her, the reason for the disruption of the meeting was the fact that “Tbilisi put certain politicized issues unacceptable for Tskhinvali on the agenda”.

“We would like to remind you that earlier, the confrontational actions of the Georgian side caused the disruption of a similar mechanism on the Georgian-Abkhazian border. Tbilisi’s policy aimed at politicizing the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings may block this useful format.

It should be noted that Tskhinvali does not refuse to participate in the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings in the future. We call on the co-chairmen of the Geneva Talks to promote the proper work of the mechanism,” Zakharova said.
