Ruins of ancient palace discovered at Alazani Valley

Members of the international archaeological expedition of the Georgian National Museum discovered ruins of an ancient palace, expanded across 1 hectare of land, dating to V-IV century BC, at Alazani Valley in Sighnaghi Municipality of eastern Kakheti region of Georgia.
The National Museum distributed photos reflecting the discovery. The building is of complex planning with a big hall with décor and a square-shape podium where presumably the king’s domain was located. The ruins are close to the soil surface and are seriously damaged by agricultural cultivating works.
The expedition members included specialists of the National Museum, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and students of Tbilisi Ivane Javakhishvili State University (TSU).
