Requesting vaccination status not discriminatory, Public Defender says

Obligation to present COVID-19 vaccine certificate in specific areas like healthcare, social/public services, or education facilities is not discriminatory, said Georgian Public Defender Nino Lomjaria after some citizens applied to the Public Defender’s Office over this issue.

Georgia faces the worst epidemic situation causing dozens of deaths per day. Revving up vaccination is crucial to saving lives, Lomjaria underscored.

“The employer is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment. The Public Defender believes certain restrictive or incentive measures for vaccinated and non-vaccinated persons will not be discriminatory. Accordingly, employers and service providers have the right to require an employee or consumer to have a complete vaccination certificate or a negative PCR test result. This rule also entails vaccine exemptions for medical reasons,” Lomjaria stated.
