Railway line may be placed in an 8-kilometer tunnel in Tbilisi

The railway line in the central part of Tbilisi may be placed in an 8-kilometer tunnel. Georgian Railway has elaborated such plan based on recent studies.

However, the final decision on the construction of the tunnel should be taken by the Georgian government and Tbilisi City Hall.

According to Giorgi Zazashvili, Deputy Head of the Georgian Railways Corporate Management Department, tunnel construction will be an optimal solution, which will improve the technical parameters of the railway. Both freight and passenger trains will be able to travel through this tunnel.
