Public Defender to report to parliamentary Human Rights Committee

Georgian Public Defender Nino Lomjaria will report to the parliamentary Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee about the 2020 challenges and problems of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

According to Chairman of the Committee Mikheil Sarjveladze, discussions will follow the Ombudsperson’s recommendations. Ana Natsvlishvili, MP of Lelo for Partnership faction, said the opposition was interested in how the government and relevant institutions execute Public Defender’s recommendations. She would also want to know about the Ombudsperson’s viewpoints on planned amendments to the law. “The Public Defender’s report is a mirror for the state institutions to look into and see specific problems,” Natsvlishvili claimed.

Georgian Public Defender Nino Lomjaria will deliver her 486-page-long 2020 annual report at the plenary session in parliament next week.
