Prosecutor's Office released official information on Vitaly Saparov murder case
General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has released official information on Vitaly Saparov murder case.
“Tbilisi City Court fully accepted the evidence submitted by the prosecution and the defendants A.K. and G.S. accused of committing the premeditated murder of Vitaly Saparov in aggravating circumstances have been found guilty.
The court confirmed that on September 30, 2018, at around 4:30 am, in the vicinity of Alexandre Dumas Street, Tbilisi, on the grounds of a conflict, A.K. and G.S. injured Vitaly Saparov, with the purpose of revenge and in order to kill him.  A.K. injured V. Saparov using a knife in different parts of the body. V. Saparov had an attempt to free himself, but did not manage, since he was grabbed by G.S. from the back and while A.K. was inflicting injuries, G.S. wounded him by a knuckle-duster. As a result of the received injuries, V. Saparov fell down, and A.K And G.S left the crime scene. Vitaly Saparov died before being hospitalized.
The Law Enforcers detained A.K. and G.S. the same day. They were charged with the offences punishable under Article 109§2 (e) (premeditated murder committed in aggravating circumstances – committed by a group) and 109§2 (D) (premeditated murder committed due to the national intolerance) of the Criminal Code of Georgia. They were sentenced to imprisonment.
Tbilisi City Court removed from the accusations the crime punishable under Article 109§2 (D) (premeditated murder committed due to the national intolerance) and found both of them guilty of crime punishable under Article 109§2 (e) (premeditated murder committed in aggravating circumstances – committed by a group) of the Criminal Code of Georgia. They were sentenced to 15-15 years in prison.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia will appeal this decision and request the aggravated punishment for both defendants”, – the statement of the Prosecutor’s Office reads.
Giorgi Sokhadze and Avtandil Kandelakishvili have been found guilty in the murder of human rights defenders Vitaly Saparov. 25-year-old human rights activist Vitaly Saparov was killed on September 30, 2018 in Tbilisi.
