Press freedom to be important aspect of democratic Georgia, French Ambassador says
French Ambassador to Georgia Diego Colas stressed that freedom of the press is a very important aspect of a democratic Georgia.
“We are very strongly attached to Georgia going towards the west and becoming a democratic country, a western, European country, and freedom of the press is a very important aspect of this,” Ambassador underscored.
Diego Colas said “we were concern about the violence during July 5 events. It will be important that media has the capacity to work properly. We will be very keen to support the media.”
Fifty-three journalists were injured during July 5-6 violence, one of whom passed away on July 11. TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava, 36, died six days later after being severely beaten by a far-right mob during the anti-Tbilisi Pride rally on July 5.
