Presidium at Wrestling Federation – Gega Gegeshidze retains post

The sitting of Presidium was held at Wrestling Federation this afternoon. The council of executives discussed various issues including the January 11 incident at Tbilisi Sports Palace.

Gega Gegeshidze, President of Wrestling Federation retained the post. Levan Datunashvili, a two-time European champion, declined the proposed reconciliation and rejected cooperation.

On January 22, police detained Gega Gegeshidze, Chief of wrestling federation, over a violent assault on Levan Datunashvili, a two-time European champion during a national tournament at Tbilisi Sports Palace.

A video aired on national television appears to show Gegeshidze hitting Datunashvili, the Greco-Roman wrestling European champion in 2016 and 2017, on the head with a metal object as he walks from the ring, leaving his face covered in blood. The court released Gegeshidze on bail and he had been retaining the position for the time being.
