Patriarchate to call on people to express protest peacefully

Georgian Patriarchate called on people to assemble at St. George Church on July 5 and show to the world that Georgians protect their dignity. According to the Patriarchate, Tbilisi Pride propagates perverted lifestyle that damages consciousness of the future generations.

On June 29, the Patriarchate appealed to the Tbilisi Pride organizers and Embassies accredited in Georgia to refrain from supporting LGBTQ+ activities. It hoped the urge of the majority of the Georgian society would not be ignored.

“Meddling in our public and spiritual life on part of certain embassies and some MEPs is unacceptable for our church and our citizens. We believe that they exceed their authority.

The Pride aims to propagate perverted lifestyle that damages consciousness of the future generations. These activities, in our people, regardless of nationality or religious faith, cause tension and disorder. The organizers and their supporters are responsible for that,” reads the statement.

The Patriarchate called on people to express their protest peacefully and not to become entrapped by the violent provocation aimed at confrontation.

Tbilisi Pride Week is held on July 1-5.
