Pascal Meunier – I am concerned about how certain people address independent presidential candidate

“I am concerned about how certain people address an independent presidential candidate although she is not a citizen of France any longer,” Pascal Meunier, French Ambassador to Georgia stated when commenting about covert recordings released by the media about an independent candidate Salome Zurabishvili.

The Ambassador said that when the presidential race was in full swing, preservation of mutual respect was essential in a democratic country. “Politicians should hold debates about what they want to do for the country’s future and people, but should refrain from personal attacks,” Meunier stated.

Meunier said that representatives of some media outlets misinterpreted his words. “The position of France and member states of the European Union and our, as being Ambassadors, is that we closely observe ongoing events in Georgia and this is our duty,” he said.

The French Ambassador said that the diplomatic corps was also waiting for giving a qualification to the case of Omega Group.

The translation of the comment made by the Ambassador was released by Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
