Parliament’s First Vice Speaker - If investigation reveals abuse of power or disproportionate use of force by police, Gakharia will take responsibility

The demonstrators have had several demands and two major demands have been satisfied. Both of them are very important for us and we hope that they are important for them, too, – First Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Tamar Chugoshvili told reporters on Saturday.

She explained that if the cases of the abuse of power or disproportionate use of force by the Interior Ministry were revealed, Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia would leave his post.

“At this stage, the most important and necessary is to investigate the vandal acts and violence that took place in front of the parliament and the next morning, in different places of Tbilisi. A legal response will be given to everything and the response will be strict. Gakharia has clearly stated his position. If the investigation reveals the cases of the abuse of power or disproportionate use of force by the Interior Ministry, he will take responsibility,” Gakharia said.
