Parliament to elect CEC Chairperson

The Georgian Parliament will elect Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) based on the changes to the electoral reform.

The parliament will elect CEC chairperson with 5-year term at the presentation of president through an open competition. The election will require no less that 2/3 of the parliament’s full membership.

The number of CEC members will increase up to 17 members. The CEC chairperson will have 2 deputies and one secretary.

Seven members of the CEC will be elected by the parliament at the presentation of president, no more than 9 members will be appointed by political parties.

The electoral reform was submitted to the Venice Commission, an Advisory Board of the Council of Europe on May 20.
