Parliament Speaker says agreement envisages that EU to post bail for Melia

“Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili will likely make a decision on pardoning Giorgi Rurua [co-founder of the TV channel Mtavari Arkhi] in coming days,” Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze stated after the meeting with European Council President Charles Michel on Tuesday.

“As for UNM Chairman Nika Melia the agreement envisages that the EU would post bail for him. Then it is up to the detainee to decide whether to agree on this bail or not. The agreement states that the next step is to work on the amnesty project jointly, soon after colleagues enter the Parliament,” Speaker Talakvadze said.

Charles Michel met with Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze, and the leaders from both the ruling Georgian Dream and opposition parties at the Parliament today.  During the visit to Georgia, President Michel met President Salome Zourabichvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili as well.

The Georgian political parties signed A way ahead for Georgia, a compromise document submitted to the parties by the European Council President Charles Michel, at the Orbeliani Palace on April 19. Charles Michel has arrived in Tbilisi earlier today, shortly after the majority of Georgian political parties signed his proposal.
