Parliament Speaker gives friendly advice to oppositional MPs

Archil Talakvadze, Parliament Speaker commented about the decision of representatives of the parliamentary oppositional European Georgia and National Movement Parties not to participate in the committee hearings of ministerial candidates.

“I would give friendly advice to oppositional lawmakers to become actively engaged in the process. European opposition is the opposition which takes part in the discussions and oppose to the ruling party,” Talakvadze said.

Parliament Speaker also commented about holding of protests in on objection to the nomination of Giorgi Gakharia, Minister of Internal Affairs, on post of Prime Minister.

“Any protest which does not contradict to the law is part of democracy. . . Citizens have full right of assemblage and expression of their viewpoints,” Talakvadze said.

Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani was present in the parliament within the framework of expression of confidence to the reshuffled government. Members of European Georgia and National Movement Parties did not attend the sitting.
