Parliament resumes process of Supreme Court lifetime appointments

The Georgian Parliament resumes the process of Supreme Court lifetime appointments on Monday.

The High Council of Justice has presented judges Tamar Okropiridze, Tea Dzimistarashvili, Nino Sandodze and Genadi Makaridze to the Parliament to select for four vacant seats at the Supreme Court of Georgia. They need to be supported by 76 MPs.

The opposition Girchi party believes the process has “no credibility, hindering the improvement of the judiciary as the ruling team approves Supreme Court judges without consensus with various groups.”

While the ruling team stresses the process transparency. MP Davit Matikashvili claims the selection procedure was developed under the recommendations of international partners.
