PACE adopts resolution on fair worldwide deployment of Covid-19 vaccines

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution Wednesday on the safe and fair worldwide deployment of vaccines against Covid-19, avoiding “vaccine nationalism” and encouraging their uptake in the face of “vaccine hesitancy” through the Covax platform initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO).

115 MEPs backed the document focusing on ethical, legal, and practical aspects of the vaccine deployment. Irakli Kobakhidze, the majority member of the Georgian Parliament and PACE Vice President, led the session.

Georgian majority MP Mariam Kvrivishvili addressed the session, saying Georgia has already bought 1.5 million Covid-19 shots via the Covax platform and expects to receive more. Georgia plans to vaccinate about 60% of the adult population by the end of the year.

A four-day winter plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) kicked off on January 25.
