No traditional Alilo to be held this year

The annual Christmas Alilo procession will be held following the regulations set due to the global pandemic, said the Public Relations Service of Georgian Patriarchate.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness, and Beatitude Ilia II will hold the Christmas church service. The church service will begin at 23:00.

“Alilo is a tradition at the blessing of Patriarch since 2000. It will be observed this year but in a different way. No procession will be held. However, the clergy will congratulate the population and children on Christmas by chanting and pouring blessed water from the motor vehicles,” the Patriarchate said.

The donation, gathered during the Alilo procession on January 7, will be distributed to orphanages, elderly houses, and penitentiary facilities as usual.
