NCDC Head says daily coronavirus cases will likely increase from 200 to 500

Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC), said, in the wake of the increasing coronavirus cases, Georgia’s covid-19-related death toll is one of the lowest in Europe.

NCDC Head noted that an increase in the number of virus cases was expected, especially in Adjara. Gamkrelidze presumes daily coronavirus cases will likely increase from 200 to 500.

“At this stage, the situation is under control and patients are being provided with appropriate medical assistance. Georgia has started home-based care for asymptomatic coronavirus patients and for whose who develop mild symptoms,” stated Gamkrelidze.

298 new cases of coronavirus and 148 recoveries have been reported today. Georgia’s COVID-19 cases reached 5 552. The number of cured patients stands at 2 054.

Three more patients have died of the virus today, increasing the death toll to 31.

Currently, 5637 people are under quarantine and 836 more under medical observation.
