Minister of Internal Affairs issues order regarding May 19 elections

Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia issued a special order to ensure conduct of midterm elections in a free, democratic and safe environment on May 19.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the relevant structural units operating in their territorial units will ensure prevention of and timely reaction upon various offenses during the pre-election campaign and on Election Day.

In addition, the order obliges all policemen to strictly adhere to the principle of political neutrality while performing official duties.

Another measure already taken by the Ministry was signing the memorandum with the Central Election Commission. The document determines the relevant legal framework and additional forms of cooperation between the parties during the election period.
