Minister of Internal Affairs describes Merabishvili’s remark on overthrowing government as ‘not serious’

Vano Merabishvili has served his prison term, sentenced by the democratic court of our country, Georgian Minister of Internal Affairs Vakhtang Gomelauri told reporters, while commenting on the release of former Prime Minister and Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili.

As for Vano Merabishvili’s yesterday’s remark that he will put an end to “Georgian Dream” in a year, Gomelauri said “it is not serious”.

“Vano Merabishvili has served his prison term, sentenced by the democratic court of our country. I will not comment on his remarks, since the representatives of the authorities have already made statements in this regard,” Gomelauri said.

Former Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili left the so-called Matrosov prison after 7 years of imprisonment on February 20.

Merabishvili was arrested in May 2013. He had been serving sentence for several cases, including a brutal dispersal of an opposition rally on May 26, 2011, the murder case of Sandro Girgvliani and the physical abuse of the opposition MP Valeri Gelashvili.
