Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality: All those accused of killing Georgian citizens to be punished

Five years have passed since the murder of Georgian citizen Giga Otkhozoria by occupying forces in the village of Khurcha, near the Russian-occupied Abkhazia region.

State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Tea Akhvlediani arrived at the cemetery of Giga Otkhozoria on Wednesday.

Minister once again expressed her condolences to family members of Otkhozoria and promised full support on behalf of the government.

“Today marks five years since the horrific murder of Giga Otkhozoria, a tragedy for each of us and for Georgia as a whole. Giga is a victim of the cruelty and injustice of the occupation which cost the lives of many of our other heroes. The government is using all possible levers to bring the perpetrators to justice,” she underscored.

Georgian man Giga Otkhozoria was shot six times by so-called border guard Rashid Kanjiogli at a checkpoint near the village of Khurcha.

Zugdidi City Court sentenced Kanjiogli to 14 years in prison on December 26, 2016.

Kanjiogli was initially placed under house arrest but the Abkhazian authorities later dropped the charges against him.
