Mikheil Saakashvili’s lawyer says Constitution of Georgia was violated

Constitution of Georgia has been violated today – lawyer Sophio Goglichidze said when commenting on the judgment made against former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili into murder case of 28-year-old Sandro Girgvliani, senior employee of a bank found killed in Okrokana settlement, outskirts of Tbilisi, on January 27, 2006.

Goglichidze said that according to the decision of Judge Giorgi Arevadze, a number of legal provisions were violated. According to her, the case is politically motivated. “It is obvious that political persecution is taking place against Mikheil Saakashvili. It was impossible to deliver a guilty verdict in the case by law,” Goglichidze said.

According to the lawyer, at this stage it is not clear what the basis for the judge’s decision was, as the motivation part of the judgment unknown to the parties yet.

As for appealing against the decision, Sophio Goglichidze said she has not communicated with Mikheil Saakashvili yet and does not know his decision.
