Mike Pompeo: NATO continues to add new members and welcomes the aspirations of other non-member states

NATO continues to add new members and welcomes the aspirations of other non-member states, – U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in opening remarks at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Washington on Thursday.

U.S. Secretary of State said NATO needs to adapt to confront threats from Russia’s increased aggression, Chinese strategic competition and uncontrolled migration.

“We must adapt our alliance to confront emerging threats … whether that’s Russian aggression, uncontrolled migration, cyber attacks, threats to energy security, Chinese strategic competition, including technology and 5G, and many other issues,” – Pompeo said.

Pompeo said every NATO member had an obligation to explain to its citizens the need to increase their defense budgets.
