MEPs call on de-facto South Ossetian authorities for handing over Archil Tatunashvili’s body to family

Sajjad Haider Karim, Chairman of EU-Georgia Association Committee and a member of the European Parliament released a statement regarding Archil Tatunashvili, Georgian citizen who died in the occupied South Ossetian region.

The statement says that MEPs are deeply concerned about death of Georgian citizen and call on de-facto South Ossetian authorities for handing over Archil Tatunashvili’s body to the family.

“Like murder of Giga Otkhozoria in the occupied Abkhazia region, the tragic death of Mr. Tatunashvili once again shows that the situation has turned to the worse with respect to human rights in Georgia’s occupied regions,” reads the statement.

Based on the statement, the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) is ready to assist the investigation and speed up negotiations. MEPs also call on Russia for fulfillment of obligations taken under 2008 truce agreement.
