MEP Rasa Juknevičienė: 2008 NATO summit mistake to be corrected

Rasa Juknevičienė, member of the European Parliament and former member of the Lithuanian Parliament, said that it is time to act to correct the mistake of the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest, when some members didn’t agree to grant Ukraine and Georgia with MAP.

“Putin can be contained. It’s necessary to correct the mistake of 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest, when some members didn’t agree to MAP for Ukraine and Georgia. It’s time to act now, because Putin uses security vacuum, terrorizes the neighbours & all democracies,” Rasa Juknevičienė tweeted.

In a contentious debate, neither Georgia nor Ukraine were admitted to the MAP process during the 2008 Bucharest NATO Summit. However, the Bucharest summit committed that both Georgia and Ukraine would become NATO members.
