Man dies after jumping from building rooftop in Tbilisi, eyewitnesses say

Zurab Chichoshvili, one of the IDPs living in the building of old sanatorium Kartli in Zgvisubani settlement, Tbilisi, died after he jumped from the roof of the building on Sunday, eyewitnesses have said. They claim Zurab Chichoshvili, who was leaving in “difficult conditions,” urging the government, the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Health, Labour and Social Affairs of Georgia to provide houses for IDPs.

“He was demanding a house as a normal person could live in a condition he had been living. He got tired and did what he did,” said Nana Shalvadze, one of the residents of the building.

Police are mobilized at the spot. A verbal confrontation took place between police and locals a short while ago.

The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Health, Labour, and Social Affairs of Georgia expressed its condolences over the accident. It noted that an investigation has been launched to determine the reason behind the death of Zurab Chichoshvili.
