Majority MP: Opposition not to want negotiations to take place

Attempts to politicize the case of Nika Melia, Chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, lack the ground, said Mikheil Sarjveladze, a member of the parliamentary majority.

According to Sarjveladze, the court’s making a fair decision is crucial so that no question remains. He said the opposition is unwilling the negotiations to actually take place.

“The opposition is artificially speculating with Nika Melia’s imprisonment and obstructs to his release. It uses destructive motives with purpose to disrupt the negotiations,” Mikheil Sarjveladze claimed.

The trial of Nika Melia, Chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party is underway at the Tbilisi City Court. The UNM Chair is accused of organizing group violence on June 20-21, 2019. Nika Melia is attending the trial.
