Shukruti village locals to keep on protest at US Embassy

Locals of Khukruti village of Khashuri region moved onto an extreme dry hunger protest form at the US Embassy in Tbilisi.

Protesters claim that no one from Georgian Manganese Company has contacted them about launch of negotiations.

The leader of the opposition Strategy Aghmashenebeli party Giorgi Vashadze met with protesters and pledged to mediate their problems in the parliament. Representatives of non-governmental sector also arrived at the embassy.

Shukruti protesters have sewn their lips shut as a radical form of protest for more than 3 weeks. They demand fair compensation based on property value estimates carried out by the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau.

On May 29, Georgian Manganese declared it was ready to allow damage estimate by Samkharauli Bureau. The company vowed that talks with protesters were underway.
