Lasha Shavdatuashvili secures third Gold Medal for Georgia at Abu Dhabi Grand Slam

Lasha Shavdatuashvili, Georgian judo wrestler (73 kg) secured the third Gold Medal for Georgia at Abu Dhabi Grand Slam. Shavdatuashvili competed against Kosovo judoka Akil Gjakova in the final.

Shavdatuashvili defeated Tommy Matsias from Sweden in the semi-final. Amiran Papinashvili (60 kg) and Vazha Margvelashvili (66 kg) also won Gold Medals on the first day of the competition.

The 3-day competition takes place at the Mubadala Arena. The Grand Slam coincides with World Judo Day, which is held on October 28. The date marks the birthday of Jigaro Kano, judo’s founder.
