Kelly Degnan: October elections are an opportunity for Georgians to elect a more representative parliament

I think the comments of the Deputy Secretary of State reflect the level of interest and concern in the United States, Europe and, of course, in Georgia, – said the US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, commenting on the statement of US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Bigan.

According to the ambassador, the 2020 parliamentary elections are a very important stage for Georgia.

“I think everyone realizes how important this election is. This is an opportunity for Georgians to elect a more representative parliament, which will better represent the diversity of views and interests. I hope that, in addition to the majoritarian candidates that people know, Georgians will also pay attention to the proportional lists, which will be more important now than before, as there are more candidates. This is a step forward for Georgia to move to fully proportional elections in 2024. So holding free and fair elections in October is very important. I think the comments of the Deputy Secretary of State reflect the level of interest and concern in the United States, Europe and, of course, in Georgia”, – Ambassador said.
