The Strasbourg-based European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) communicated the Georgian government on seven applications in 2020 compared to 17 in 2019. That is a historical minimum, the Justice Ministry of Georgia said.
In 2009-2011, the ECHR communicated to Georgia on approximately 45-50 cases, in 2017-2019 in 15-25 applications.
Georgia outruns 23 countries of the European Union with minimum communication data.
Norway, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Monaco, San Marino are the leaders in the minimum communicated applications.
The decreasing tendency of lawsuits filed in Strasbourg Court continued in 2020. According to the Justice Ministry, the reforms carried out by the Georgian government in recent years and the effective justice system that provides fair opportunity to protect human rights ensured these statistics.
