Justice Ministry – CoE Committee of Ministers sets next debates on Deportation Case for March

Justice Ministry of Georgia responded to the information released by the Russian media alleging that Russia has found the way not to pay to Georgia the compensation for so-called Deportation Case.

According to Justice Ministry, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe scheduled the next debates on the execution of the European Court’s judgment on so-called Deportation Case for March of 2020.

Based on the Grand Chamber January 31, 2019, decision, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered Russia to pay 10 million Euros in favour of Georgia, within three months. This amount will be distributed to at least 1,500 Georgian nationals, the victims of human rights violations and mass deportation from the Russian Federation in the autumn of 2006.

Within the framework of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia will take all possible measures to oblige the Russian Federation to comply with the obligations imposed by the ECHR.
