Irakli Kobakhidze – NGO should not participate in political performances

A non-governmental organization should not participate in political performances and should not have political interests – Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Georgian Parliament stated when talking about the selection procedure and criteria of judicial candidates for Supreme Court of Georgia.

Chairman of Parliament met with representatives of Diplomatic Corps, parliamentary opposition, court authorities and non-governmental organizations on February 22.

Kobakhidze said that the draft-project presented during the meeting proposed different procedures that were open and transparent and the procedure would be subjected to the public observance for at least 2 months.

Chairman of Parliament criticized Giorgi Mshvenieradze, a representative of Coalition for an Independent and Transparent Judiciary. “Mshvenieradze was involved in the campaign against presidential candidate Salome Zurabishvili. He called on international partners not to participate in the working process,” Kobakhidze said.

Coalition for an Independent and Transparent Judiciary left the working format on February 22. Mshvenieradze later told journalists that Chairman of Parliament had not shared the arguments of the non-governmental sector.
