Human Rights Committee to meet prison infirmary medical personnel

Members of the Georgian parliamentary Human Rights and Civic Integration Committee will meet the medical staff of the Gldani N18 Prison infirmary on Thursday.

According to Mikheil Sarjveladze, Chairman of the Committee, the MPs will involve in ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili’s health situation and will hold talks with the opposition over the same issue.

The parliamentary bureau submitted to the Committee a petition with signatures of 1 383 citizens, who urge Saakashvili’s urgent transfer to a civic hospital.

The opposition United National Movement (UNM) party holds permanent protests daily with the same demand.

Jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili has been on a hunger strike since October 1.
